5 ways to be a Conscious Leader

Becoming a conscious leader is an ongoing process that starts with self-awareness. Conscious leaders know themselves and are aware of their strengths and weaknesses. They can also recognise their own emotions and those of the people around them.

Leaders that are conscious talk with honesty lead authentically and hold themselves accountable. They listen with the intention of understanding rather than responding, and they do so by being aware of themselves and their surroundings.

Here are 5 things you can do right now to enhance your leadership toolkit with mindfulness and become a conscious leader.

1.     Develop self-awareness

Self-awareness is the capacity to reflect on and comprehend one’s feelings, actions, and reasons. It’s examining oneself regularly and determining whether your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are in sync. It’s about examining yourself – your unconscious biases, ego, and default thought patterns that may be self-serving – and asking yourself how you might do and be better for yourself and others. The foundation of conscious leadership is self-awareness. 

2.     Meditate

This is important since studies suggest that meditation decreases stress, increases creativity, improves REM sleep, brain functions, and improves attention. You’ll discover that sitting quietly, walking, chanting, or experimenting with different types of meditation enhances your degree of consciousness.

3.     Listen more, communicate openly and honestly

At all levels, we’ve noticed a tendency of individuals to talk with each other. Everyone is focused on having the final word, and few of us appear to be paying attention to each other. So, keep in mind that you only have one mouth and two ears, and listen more intently.

Even if it takes an extra minute to find the correct words, speak more deliberately. Because hearing what others have to say will help you obtain a complete view of any situation and increase your chances of detecting and effectively conquering problems that come your way.

4.     Be intentional

Conscious healthcare leaders thrive because they do everything with purpose. Whether it’s how they spend their time and money or where they go and vacation, it’s all about them. Set intentions for any area of your life where you’re not completely pleased this weekend, and watch your unhappiness transform into experiences you’ll be proud of.

5.     Surround yourself with individuals that inspire you

The people you hang out with impact how you think, feel, and act. If you’re surrounded by individuals who have detrimental viewpoints and are, in essence, roadblocks to your vision, you might want to reconsider their employment. Again, the value of awareness cannot be overstated. Before you ask what sort of pharmaceutical leader you are, consider what kind of person you are and work to improve the aspects of yourself that may obstruct your ability to lead others. 

Conscious leadership matters. It is a way to create a better world for everyone and make sure that we are all aware of the impact of our actions on our workplace, environment, society and future generations.

Conscious leadership involves taking a deep look at oneself, one’s team and the world around them in order to create impact and influence. They are able to see things from multiple perspectives which allows them to make better decisions for themselves and others. They are really good at understanding and empathising with people. This not only builds trust but also allows their teams to grow and become more resilient.
