[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Do you dread business meetings? Whether they’re one on one with your manager or they involve the entire team, business meetings can often feel like a waste of an hour. An hour you could be spending more productively working towards targets. But, it doesn’t have to be this way.
A meeting with your manager should be a productive session where both of you come out feeling better informed and more motivated. If this sounds like a pipedream to you, here are a few tips for getting the most out of meetings with your manager.
Before the meeting
Everyone should be prepared for the meeting to reduce the amount of time wasted bringing everyone up to speed. To help this, you should know the aims of the meeting and create an agenda listing the points that need to be addressed. Include any information that your boss and other attendees need to know before the meeting. Send this round to all the attendees with plenty of time before the meeting.
During the meeting
It can be easy to go off topic during business meetings, and you don’t want to seem rude by interrupting your boss when they start talking about their child’s football match over the weekend. But, tangents in conversations are the biggest waste of time in meetings. When this happens, try to politely steer the conversation back towards the point at hand. And, obviously, avoid going off topic yourself.
After the meeting
Conclude the meeting by agreeing on the next steps everyone needs to take and when these things need to be achieved by. Once you leave the meeting, look at the agreed-upon goals for yourself and your team and identify what steps you need to take, and when, to achieve these things. Then, make sure you stick to this plan!
Turn your meetings with your manager into productive affairs, rather than a waste of time that everyone dreads.
