How to defeat that defeated feeling at work

The world of work is not always plain sailing, especially if you’re an entrepreneur establishing a new business. You will face challenges along the way, there’s not much you can do about that. But, what you can control is your mindset in the face of those challenges. If you let yourself feel defeated by the hurdles you’re facing, then it can seriously bring you down and impede your ability to overcome them.

Stop feeling sorry for yourself

When something goes wrong, it can be easy to place blame or make excuses. Whether you’re blaming yourself or someone else for the situation you’re in, that kind of negativity isn’t helpful. The best thing to do is pick yourself back up straight away and get on with doing what you do best.

Focus on the solution, not the problem

Dwelling on the problem isn’t going to get you anywhere. Instead, you should be focusing all your energy and attention to coming up with the solution. In the face of failure, the solution will require you to either go in a new direction or keep doing what you were doing but with more consistency and patience. Your individual situation will dictate which of these options is the right one.

Talk to people who understand your situation

It’s a good idea to join a networking group for entrepreneurs in your area or industry. These people have been there, done that, and may have even overcome the exact same challenge that you’re currently facing. Advice and support from people like this can be invaluable for your entrepreneur journey.

Entrepreneurship is a difficult journey that will be paved with failures, but you can’t let those failures and obstacles defeat you.
